What is Spirit? Spirit is all that is beyond the physical. We are spirit; those who have crossed over are spirit; angels, guides and light beings are spirit; the energy of chi is spirit; divine beings are spirit; the essence of flowers and plants is spirit; soul is spirit; and the life force of all that exists is spirit. Spirit communicates through coincidences and synchronicities, visual stimuli, diverting your attention, auditory sounds and words, music both auditory and the music of nature, sensations, chills and touches, smells and tastes, animals in your awareness, plants that come into your thoughts, gemstones and colors that present themselves to you and anything or anyone who shows up in your life. Spirit may communicate for your protection, for healing, for personal development, for achieving specific goals, for fulfilling your divine purpose, for mending wounds and relationships, for teaching life lessons, for imparting wisdom and knowledge, for bringing balance and harmony, and for many other honorable purposes.

Class Overview:

WHAT IS SPIRIT

Embodied Spirits

Embodied spirits are corporeal, incarnate (in a physical body.) Spirits embodied in the flesh include us as human beings as well as living animals, plants and other non-human beings. Communication with embodied spirits is often referred to as telepathy, Extra-Sensory Perception (ESP) or psychic transmission. Psychic communication may be experienced as sensory input known as clairvoyance (clear vision), clairaudience (hearing/listening), clairsentience (feeling/touching), claircognizance (knowing), clairgustance (tasting) or clairalience (smelling). When you know who is calling before answering the phone, hear another person’s thoughts, see in your mind’s eye what is happening somewhere else in the world, or feel a warm hug from a loved one who is miles away you are experiencing spirit-to-spirit communication with embodied spirits. If you are open to the possibility of communicating with nature, you have these experiences with plant and animal spirits as well. Spirit communication is also possible with other living beings on this and other planets.

Disembodied Spirits

Loved ones who have crossed over in spirit commonly communicate with those still living. They are disembodied spirits who once were embodied and now are not. These disembodied spirits may also communicate through all of the “clairs” of psychic communication mentioned previously. Spirit guides may be those who once lived on Earth or other planets, and some customs include animal spirits as guides. “Revenant” is a term meaning one who returns after death; thus disembodied spirit. Ghosts would fall into this category of spirits. It has become more commonplace for one to have had one or more experiences that are difficult to explain as anything other than a visitation or communication by a revenant.

Unembodied Spirits

Primordial and Premortal spirits are unembodied spirits that have never been embodied. A primordial spirit has existed from the beginning of time as we know it. Divine beings are generally considered primordial. Angels are commonly considered unembodied spirits. The spirits of those who have not yet been incarnated into a physical existence are Premortal. Visitations by these unembodied spirits may be considered a uniquely sacred or divinely inspired experience. Visions, dream visitations and direct messages may be employed by these beings of light.

HOW DOES SPIRIT COMMUNICATE

Direct Communication

Angels are considered to be messengers and ministering spirits who appear in time of need or expediency. Their intervention is directed toward a particular purpose and may be within the scope of their specific expertise. Other ministering spirits may come with similar purpose and may have more broad categories of ministry. Discarnate or disembodied spirits may appear or interact with us in time of need; but also visit with their own intent and purposes. They may simply be “dropping by” or even appear without any particular desire to communicate with us individually. Thus, every angelic communication is directed toward the recipient while the appearance of disembodied spirits may have some, little or no specific significance to the recipient.

Indirect Communication

Spirit communication is often so subtle that it may go unnoticed. Signs and symbols are commonly used by Spirit to convey messages to us. A sign may be as stark as an actual sign like a billboard that gets our attention or as inconspicuous as something just being a little out of place. Symbology is often implemented to convey messages. Visual symbols and metaphors are common tools for spirit communication. Symbols may be recognized at once or require research, reflection and meditation to interpret.

Events that are synchronous occur at the same time. Synchronicities are seemingly related events that seem to happen by coincidental occurrence without a conventional explanation for that causality. When you receive the same message by whatever means from multiple otherwise unrelated sources, the synchronicity of event draws your attention to it. Spirit guides often use this method to get you to pay attention to the message. Once they have your attention, you can choose to be more open to their communication so that you can receive more insight into the meaning of the message.

Holistic healers are familiar with subtle energy; but the term is not as often used in speaking about spirit communication. The body is the physical manifestation of spirit. Spirit is layers or manifestations of the subtle body. Subtle energy, as it relates to spirituality, refers to spiritual energy, which may also be referred to a "qi," "prana" or "the breath of life." Subtle energy may be experienced as the field of energy surrounding the body known as the aura. Sensing or seeing this subtle energy is most easily accomplished when we still the soul and quiet the mind. Being in the space of subtle energy so that you can sense the slightest shift within the field requires a unique connection to spirit known by practitioners of energy healing, yoga and meditation. Spirit communicates well within this modality because it is the basic energy of Spirit itself. This is one reason that meditation brings us so close to Spirit. It shifts our consciousness more into alignment with the deeper, quieter aspects of subtle energy. Speaking “the language of light” is communicating with Spirit in the “language” of Spirit that is beyond words, beyond the need for words. Attuning to communication through subtle energy opens us to much greater depths of communication than we would otherwise ever know in this lifetime. I often hear people say, “I can’t do that” because they think it is difficult or complicated. It is neither. I submit to you that you do it now and you always have. You just may have not brought this communication into your conscious awareness. As you slow your breath and quiet your physical energy you become more aware of your own spirit energy. You shift your focus to a sense of an inner self. Within that inner self is the connection to all subtle energy because subtle energy is not “out there somewhere.” It simply is. When you stop searching for it outside yourself you can more easily connect within it. You ARE subtle energy. You are a part of it and it a part of you at all times. When you begin to receive subtle energy spirit communication you may experience it as packets of thought, then downloads of concepts. As you become more accustomed to the subtleness of the communication style you will simply “be” it. There are no words to adequately describe it. It is a “knowing” and it is beyond knowing. It is a “feeling” and it is beyond feeling. It is a “seeing” and it is beyond seeing. As you recognize that you ARE the energy field, you also recognize that words pale in comparison to the experience. Spirit communication IS and always IS, and the only challenge is bringing the most significant parts of it into conscious awareness.

Purpose of Spirit Communication

We receive Spirit communication from various sources for various reasons. Spirit communication may come to us to reveal to us that which we have forgotten, our Divine purpose for this life, other lives or eternity. We will only receive enough information about our Divine purpose for us to adhere to it.

Spirit may teach us about life or about a specific task we have to perform. Spirit guides may do much teaching throughout our lives, and specific guides or revenants may come to teach a specific thing. If you are building something that has great significance to your life, especially spiritual significance, and/or may affect the lives of others, don’t be surprised if you don’t have a visitation dream where someone who has long since crossed over tells you how to get past the building hurdle, even to the extent of showing you designs or blueprints if necessary. Sometimes it is that specific. Often it is more vague. Guidance and teaching are always available to you if you only ask.

Ministering spirits show up when we have a need for comfort, counsel and strengthening. Spirit communication may include physical, mental, emotional or spiritual healing. It may be as subtle as feeling better suddenly or as specific as a direct visitation.

If we seek wisdom diligently with a pure heart, we will receive it. Some of the most profound thoughts that have ever occurred to me I could not take credit for. They came in direct response to a prayer, and I knew that the wise concepts and words were received through direct spirit communication.

When we petition God and the angels for answers that we are in earnest about understanding, Spirit delivers these answers by any means necessary for us to bring them into our awareness. We know that what we ask for, believing, we receive. Sometimes the only impediment to our reception is our own disbelief. It amazes me how many times someone (even myself) will say that they had been asking for a specific answer for months without getting an answer when they finally realized that they had been receiving clues all along. It might be as simple as the lizard, bird or squirrel that they had noticed every day for months; but they didn’t equate animal spirit with their answer. Or it might be that their coffee cup, eyeglasses or keys kept getting misplaced without their knowledge of misplacing them all that time; a clue that some spirit is attempting to draw their attention long enough to get a message through. It could be that other people kept using the same phrase at various times speaking on various topics and the phrase, in other context or definition, was directly related to the answer they were seeking. Answers are imparted to us in a wide variety of ways. If we first believe, then we can more easily discern the answers as they appear in our lives.

Spirit communication is busily engaged in the process of preparing us for ascension. We need to avoid the temptation to limit our own preparation by insisting that ascension means a certain thing only or will occur in a specific way only. If we can open ourselves to infinite possibilities and allow Spirit to guide, minister, teach and prepare us for ascension, we can flow with the energy of Spirit through ascension to all that is our destiny, our chosen Divine path.
